Drop In Classes

These classes are for those who already have basic knowledge or skills. Instructors lead class and answer questions, but may not offer individual attention.

Registration not required. $15 per session, unless noted otherwise. Free and unlimited drop in classes with Platinum Pass. Oct/Nov drop in classes begin Oct 21.

Limited Enrollment Classes

These classes have limited enrollment to provide individualized, hands-on instruction. They build upon skills as the class progresses.

General Info & Policies

Membership in OTCGL is not required to take classes. Some classes are designed for those who want to learn how to teach their dog to be a well-manner pet (such as Puppy and Household classes). Other classes focus on competitive sports. Many students enjoy competitive classes, even though they do not compete. All levels of classes are offered…from beginner to expert. Whatever the class...all are welcome.

We typically offer six 6-week terms each year, with a 2 or 3 week break between terms. Not all classes are held each term. Some classes have pre-requisites.

Limited enrollment classes: provide individualized instruction and generally build upon skills as the class progresses.  Registration required.  Class size limited. First come, first served. Cost per 6 week class:

    30 min classes: $80

     45 min classes: $100

Special Program classes: Reactive Dog & Tracking classes are $150. Special Program classes are not eligible for the Platinum Pass.

Cost: $15 per session or free if have Platinum Pass. For designated run through classes, the drop in fee is $10 or free for Platinum Pass holders.

Discounts: Veterans and current military personnel receive a $10 discount on classes upon providing a valid military ID.

Cancellations: Cancellations rec’d by the registration closing date will receive a full refund of the registration fee. Cancellations rec’d after the registration closing date will receive a refund of fees less a $10 administrative fee.

Refunds: Refunds must be requested within 48 hours after the first class session. If, in the opinion of the instructor, a dog is unsuitable for class, the student will receive a full refund.  Examples include:  excessive barking, which is overly disruptive; dogs that are excessively reactive to other dogs or people; or dogs with aggressive tendencies.  

Inclement Weather:  OTCGL daytime classes are cancelled when Lansing Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather. OTCGL night classes are cancelled when Lansing Public Schools cancel after-school and evening activities. Cancellations are posted on the OTCGL Facebook page. Like us on Facebook!   

Club Training Rules

  1. Dogs must be on leash or in a crate except during off-leash exercises in the ring. Dogs cannot be tied to furniture or left in a “stay” position.

  2. No punishment based training. No yelling, harsh jerking, kicking, hitting, or alpha rolls.

  3. Dogs must be under control at all times. Dogs that are excessively disruptive or pose a danger to other dogs or handlers may be unsuitable for group classes.

  4. Handlers must clean up after their dog.

  5. No shock collars, e-collars, or “no-bark” devices. No chain or retractable leashes. Some instructors have additional requirements.

  6. Dogs with symptoms of infectious disease such as coughing, vomiting, low-grade fever, lethargy, diarrhea should not come to class. Dogs may return to class after 7 symptom-free days.

  7. Bitches in season may attend class, but must wear pants.

  8. Handlers must sign in each time they attend a class.
